Daniel Louis decided he wanted to take a different approach to the green revolution. Rather than focus on eco-friendly products, he wanted to use existing resources to create home furnishings. The result is Revampt, a sustainable retail boutique that specializes in custom reclaimed and upcycled home furnishing as well as decor, gifts and accessories.

The items Louis sells from his prime location in Denver’s upscale Cherry Creek North are individually selected for their utility, creativity and unique re-purposed nature. Bike wheels, sails, tires, old machinery, train car flooring or even a truck hood can make up a one-of-a-kind piece that might wind up in your living room, bedroom or office. Almost everything is made from more than 50 percent reclaimed items, with several pieces reaching as high as 100 percent recycled.

Taking sustainably and engagement up another notch, local craftsmen hand make approximately 70 percent of Revampt’s products, meaning they are well built and not traveling long miles to reach the store. Louis, a Colorado native, returned to Denver in 2008 after graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a degree in fine arts. Revampt was started in a one-car garage and is the culmination of craftsmen branding and collaboration. “We run Revampt similar to an art gallery by showcasing local talent. Once you pinpoint the talent, you can run with it,” Louis says. “It’s always interesting to see what they’re coming up with; it helps keep us different.”

Even Revampt’s design and furniture showroom is repurposed. Built around the turn of the century, the location was originally a set of three residences that became a dental office in the 1950s. The decades of renovations and changes posed a significant challenge, but Louis and his team worked day and night to restore the beauty. Multiple layers of decades-old flooring were peeled back to expose century-old pine, which has a rich character that is nearly impossible to replicate. A significant amount of interior brickwork was exposed, and bay windows were added around existing doorways and windows for better retail visibility.
