To the west of Denver, quickly enter into the foothills of the breathtaking Rocky Mountains and towns like Genesee and Morrison, home of the legendary Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre. Just as The Mile High City was being founded, prospectors also put Black Hawk and Central City on the map, especially with “The Gregory Lode” gold strike of 1859. The history still shines in these towns, but their fortunes are now based on more than 20 casinos, the beautiful Central City Opera House and outdoor recreation. Just down the road is Georgetown, also with a storied and lovingly preserved history and the popular Georgetown Loop Railroad. To the north of Denver is Loveland, a charming town perhaps best known for its “love stamp” program on Valentine’s Day, where you’ll find bronze foundries, sculpture shows and public art collections.
